About Me :

Greg Brisbourne - Art Director, Graphic Artist

All About Myself . . .

My name is Greg Brisbourne.  I am a Graphic Designer by trade and an Artistic Painter.

I have built my life and career here in Calgary Alberta, in the foothills of the Rockies.  l was trained at Alberta College of the Arts majoring in Visual Communications.  I started my career as a Graphic Designer at some local art studios, then I got on with FWJ Communications.  Here I learned the skills of advertising and the importance of teamwork.  For over 30 years, I have worked extensively in all forms of art and graphic design.

I soon acquired the position of Art Director and accomplished many high end achievements.  One of my most memorable accomplishments was to design and produce the prestigious and collectable Rodeo and Evening Show programs for The Calgary Stampede for 5 years.  Later, I was employed in smaller studios, still designing and producing many significant projects.  I then was employed at Calbridge Homes as their Senior Graphic Designer.  They are a major home builder in Calgary, and is where I learned the ropes in marketing homes.  More recently, I was taken on as Client Project Manager, Designer, and Producer at a Decal and Wrap Company for vehicles.

A huge personal accomplishment was designing, writing, and producing my first book.  A family heirloom book called “Unforgettable”, with 85 pages of intense design with family photos, colour, and writing, taking over 3 years to produce.  I am very proud to do this.

 My Painting Story

Now, about my painting and paintings.  I did my first painting when I was 14 with my Dad's old paints up in the attic.  That was the beginning of my painting legacy.  As the years went by, I painted numerous paintings of all themes, sizes, and mediums.  As I was in a learning curve, I tried different styles but the main style I stuck with was impressionistic realism.  More time passed and by the time I was 18, I was hired at The Catherine White Multicultural Centre in Cold Lake, Alberta where I taught painting.  Later, on a Government grant, I was honoured to go to Banff School of The Arts in Banff, Alberta to learn drawing and painting techniques.  Following that, I was chosen to go to The Saskatchewan Summer School of The Arts.  At this point my painting really took off, as everyday l was painting something new.

I have attended painting shows where I would sell my paintings, which helped finance my painting supplies.  I have completed many paintings that ended up in various places throughout Canada.

Over my Graphic Designer career of 30 years, I’ve always kept my painting skills growing.  Over the years, most paintings were of a loose realism style, but now I would like to pursue a similar but more expressionistic impressionism.  Paintings will be of the larger format, and be by brush or pallet knife, or both combined.  They will be of a direct spontaneous approach in a lesser time frame.  This way it would give me the freedom which l really haven't experienced before, of being more expressionistic.  If this sounds exciting to YOU, and you would love a painting of this nature, please contact me.
